Term 2 Week 9 2025
Principal's Message

‘We do whatever it takes to lead the way in Love, Learning, Faith, School Spirit, Sport & Community’
Dear families and friends,
Plenty of exciting things coming up
Thursday, 3rd July - 2.00pm Vision Achievement Assembly & at 2.25pm Farewell Betty Schuhmacher (do not tell her). Parents welcome.
Friday, 4th July - NAIDOC Celebrations. Parents welcome.
Friday, 25th July - 2.00pm Blessing of our two Renovations. Parents welcome.
Friday, 1st August - Trucker Cap Grandparents Friday. We hope to see grandparents and family members join us on this exciting day from 9.00am - 11.30 am for our Grandparents. Our SMP kids can wear a Trucker Cap, alongside their uniform. We combined this with Grandparents Day this year, so our grandparents can see our school in a different light and join in these celebrations whilst also being able to attend the truck show on Saturday for those who have travelled. Grandparents will see their grandchildren in class, hear from our Truck Drivers, have a shared lunch and some fun activities. Approximate times:
- 9:00am - 9:30am - Interviews & talk with Truck Crew
- 9:30am - 9:40am - Can Kinder pull Yogi out of a Rut?
- 9:40am - 10:10am - Grandad & Grandma Challenge
- 10:10am - 10:45am - Grandparents check out their Grandkids in class
- 10:45am - 11:30am - Grandparents check out the trucks and have a shared Morning Tea/Lunch
Our grandmothers are invited to cook/bake their specialty dish to be enjoyed by all grandparents and guests for our shared morning tea/lunch, with the best plate judged by our Truck Drivers winning the inaugural 'This Grandma warmed a Truckers Heart Trophy, and a hug and photo with Yogi in his truck. More info via Compass that was sent on Wednesday. Grandmas may fill out details via this Jotform. We will select 2 Grandads to compete in a Grandad Trucker Challenge against our Truckers.
Our kids have the opportunity to purchase a limited edition SMP Trucker Cap. This is optional and does not replace the school hat. Cost is $25 per hat. Hats can be purchased on the day, or in the lead up via an Event that has been sent via Compass. As they are limited, I would pre-purchase as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Due to Compass, only one hat can be purchased per child. Adults may wish to purchase whatever we have left on the day.
I know we have families involved in the Trucking Industry. If you would like to showcase one of your trucks on this day, please send me an email as soon as possible and I will see if we can make this work (we may not be able to accommodate all). john.obrien@lism.catholic.edu.au
Due to the number of dress-ups and family events we will have this year, we will not be dressing up for Book Week or Parading giving, especially our mums, a bit of a break.
Toilet Refurbishment
The renovations of the two current spaces should be finished by the beginning of next term. Over the holidays, we will make a start to the refurbishment of the student toilets. This will take some time to complete, and we will be limited in some spaces, but the outcome will be very much worth it. Our current toilets are not great; our new ones will be.
Tell Them From Me: Thank you very much to the families who completed these surveys. We had 89 families complete these. We will go through the parent results with families at our Parent Community Group meeting at 5:30pm on Wednesday, 30th July. This meeting will take place in our newly renovated staff space upstairs of the convent. Some light food will be served. Staff will look at the Parent, Student, and their surveys the first week after the holidays at a staff meeting.
Take care
John O’Brien

As a side note, here are some interesting stats regarding student attendance you might not be aware of:
- 80% attendance for the 2025 school year is equivalent to 1 day off a week, every week (20 days so far)
- 80% attendance for the 2025 school year is equivalent to 6,000 minutes of lost learning time (100 hours)

To make an order, please follow the steps:
1) Fill out the order form below.
2) Make payment for the jacket through the Compass event the next day after ordering or at the school office. This allows the office to add your name to the list in the Compass event for easier payment.

Mobile Laundry Trailer Update
We have now hit our $30,000 fundraising target to build our Mobile Laundry Trailer. Thank you so much to everyone who contributed in some way, shape or form. We are very hopeful to have this completely up and running by the end of Term 3.
Family Mass
A big thank you to all of the students and family members who came along to our combined Family Mass with SMCC last Saturday. It was great to have so many people come together to join our parish community. We generally only have one Family Mass per term. Next term we won't have a Family Mass as such, however, we will all come together for Father Peter's special celebration Mass on Sunday 24th August at 9:00am to recognise his 50th year as an ordained priest.

Jaxon Williams and Slater Gould represented SMP and the Richmond Zone at the Diocesan Rugby Union trials in Wollongbar. Both boys gave it their all on the field. Yr 6 Acts of Hope
Today our Year 6 students stepped out into the community to take part in Acts of Hope – giving their time, energy and hearts to others.
Students visited St Michael’s Nursing Home, where they played bingo and shared laughs with residents, and Richmond Lodge, enjoying story time and card games. Others spent time with the little ones at St Mary’s Preschool, cleaned headstones at the cemetery, washed windows, and helped our groundsman tidy up around the school.
It was an afternoon filled with connection, service, and joy. Our students thoroughly enjoyed giving back and spending time with members of our community who appreciate it most.
SMP & SMCC NAIDOC Liturgy
All parents and carers are warmly invited to join us for our NAIDOC Liturgy on Friday, 4th July at 10:00am on St Mary’s College grass.
Our students will be participating in the celebration through song and dance performances and we would love for you to come along and share in this special community event.
We look forward to seeing you there!

Get Ready for Trucker Cap Friday!
Trucker Cap Friday will be here before we know it! If you’d like to grab one of our very own SMP Trucker Caps, make sure you place your order and pay through the event link shared via Compass.
We have limited stock available, so if you’re keen, don’t wait – get your order in early to avoid missing out!
These awesome caps will be the perfect keepsake for the day and a great way to collect signatures from our trucking legends during the celebrations.

Casino Community Naidoc March
We invite all SMP students and families to join the Casino Community NAIDOC March on Monday, 7th July at 10:00am.
We will assemble at Graham Place and return there at the conclusion of the march for parent pick-up.
We would love our students to attend in full school uniform to proudly represent St Mary’s and support this important community event.
It would be especially great to see our Year 6 Leaders of Community & School Spirit and SRC members involved on the day.
We hope to see you there!
